This test places a catheter through the nose and into the esophagus as well. The catheter measures pressure at certain points within the esophagus and upper stomach. The test will define how well the lower esophageal sphincter is working, and helps to predict which surgery may be helpful and how successful surgery may be. It also helps to identify other processes in the esophagus that would indicate surgery should not be done.
