Reflux Symptoms

Reflux disease can present as a variety of ailments.  This constellation of symptoms is initially called “dyspepsia” and includes:
  • Belching 
  • Heartburn
  • Esophageal Burning
  • Nausea
  • Poor appetite
  • Abdominal burning
  • Chest pains

Other symptoms that may not seem like they are related:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic cough
  • Dental cavities
  • Bad breath
Most commonly patients will complain of the pain in their chest or the acid taste that they get in their mouth.  In severe circumstances, patients will complain of vomiting acid at night.

Other diseases can be related or worsen reflux disease.  These include esophagitis, Barrett’s disease, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, delayed gastric emptying and hiatal hernias.

Appropriate treatment of reflux disease should improve the symptoms and may relieve the other conditions related to reflux
